Padworth Common Ringing Demonstration 8 November 2009
As part of the celebrations this year for 100 years of the British Ringing Scheme we held a ringing demonstration at Padworth Common. This event was organised with Berkshire Ornithological Club, British Trust for Ornithology and West Berkshire Council Countryside Service. We caught a total of 49 birds and the Marsh Tit was an obvious highlight for the spectators. The retraps were also interesting:
- A Great Tit which had been ringed at Padworth in 2006 and but hasn't been retrapped in-between times
- A juvenile Blue Tit ringed in July 4 km away in Burghfield Common
- A juvenile Blue Tit ringed September 3 km away at Aldermaston Gravel Pits by Newbury Ringing Group
- Two Great Tits ringed as chicks at Padworth as part of our ongoing nest box study
